Interfaith Actor Reception of Islamic Covenants: How ‘New’ Religious Knowledge Influences Views on Interreligious Relations in Islam

The historicity of early Islamic diplomatic documents, referred to as the covenants Prophet Muhammad, has received considerable scholarly attention over past decade. This article is first present a critical examination reception Prophet’s among interfaith actors. An educative intervention instrument was used examine how research on influences participants’ thinking about interreligious relations in Islam. With reference Stuart Hall’s audience theory, study found that most participants adopted ‘preferred’ reading material, while minorities ‘negotiated’ or ‘oppositional’ readings. discusses these findings, highlighting openness new religious knowledge, prior views Islam, and knowledge primary sources influence covenants.
